Learn to extract and spin nettle fibre, an ancient and sustainable textile material. Explore the history, folklore, and processing techniques of nettles and flax.
WHAT TO BRING: Please bring the following:
- a blunt cutlery knife,
- an apron or flat woven kitchen towel
- pen and paper for notes
Brigitte is a sustainable weaver and textile designer maker, passionate about sustainable and eco-friendly textiles. Working with nettle, linen and organic materials, her woven work is low-impact and fully naturally biodegradable. Most recently, she collaborated with a local group of flax enthusiasts to create a pair of linen denim jeans. This is a pioneering example of communities’ power to be part of a positive textile future. Based on the Hampshire/Surrey border, Brigitte teaches fibre processing workshops and gives demonstrations at heritage museums dedicated to preserving traditional crafts. Brigitte holds an MA in Textiles from UCA Farnham.
