Beginners and Returners Crochet with Nicola Tyrer
SATURDAY 7th JUNE 10.15-12.15
Crochet is in the midst of a wonderful resurgence in popularity, and now you can join in the lovely creativity! Whether you are a complete beginner, or you’ve tried crochet a while ago and need a refresher (we’ve all been there!), this introductory workshop will teach you the basics of crochet, including how to hold the hook and yarn, make chain stitches, double crochet, and potentially even treble crochet if you are a fast learner! As we learn the movements, we will also discuss factors like tension, yarns, reading patterns, and project options – crochet is far more than just granny squares! If you are already used to fibre arts then some of this may be familiar, but if not then we will be so excited to invite you into a world of creativity and yarny goodness. Let your crochet journey start here!
WHAT TO BRING: Yarn and hooks will be provided for this class, though if you have preferences on your yarn weight and colour, you are more than welcome to bring your own.
Nicola is an incredibly keen crafter, and crochet and knitting pattern designer. She has a teaching background, so is very used to giving instruction and encouraging people to try things they don’t necessarily feel confident with! In addition to designing and writing her own patterns, she established and ran a Stitchcraft and Knittery club at her secondary school, which was rather popular with students from Year 7 to Sixth Form. As a result she can instruct both left and right handed crocheters, and is accustomed to fine-tuning techniques until you find the way that works for you.
